Proverbs states its theme right at the beginning of the book (1:1-7). Its goal is to describe and instill “wisdom” in God’s people, a wisdom that is founded in the “fear of the Lord” and that works out life in the practical details of everyday situations and relationships.
Thematic verse: “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instructions.” - Proverbs 1:7
One of the best things about Proverbs is its simplicity and depth. It’s shallow enough to be a kiddie pool and deep enough to drown an elephant. If you ever need a “quick word from the Lord” or don’t know where to read, Proverbs is an excellent go-to book.
