How We Serve With SNACK PAK 4 KIDS

Since 2015 Gathering Midtown has been serving as a member of the Snack Pak network. We first began a relationship with Hawthorne Elementary. In 2018 Gathering Midtown began a relationship with a second school through the Snack Pak network, Bowden Elementary.

On a monthly basis, we stock the schools with intentionally chosen food items. Then, once a month, our Snack Pak volunteers divide the food into bags for each student. We deliver the bags by hand to each classroom with Snack Pak kids on its roster. We do this after the school day has ended so as to honor the student's pride and sense of identity. The next day the teachers discretely pass the food bags out to the appropriate kids for them to take home for the weekend.

The difference that this program has had on these students lives is incredible and measurable. Teachers with students in the Snack Pak program say that with the students having healthy food options to eat over the weekend gives them an immense leg up when they come back to school on Monday.

We are incredibly honored to be able to serve these two school communities, fighting food insecurity in our neighborhoods.

Snack Pak's Mission Statement:

Hunger impacts a child’s ability to learn. SP4KSA provides weekend food supplements to serve the needs of chronically hungry children, addressing the relationship between food insecurity and learning.
